why am i sporty spice all of a sudden?
we won our soccer tournament today...sportz award #2 for this week.

my life as a scholar resumes with the opening of school on wednesday.
i'm content with my classes, but socially i feel like this:

as for recent entertainment:
  • i watched the oldboy with michelle last night; it was horrifyingly twisted, but overall a fantastic movie. it definitely had me going.  oldboy makes american movies like saw or fight club seem like child's play.  i am taking care to side-step the plot, because anything i say will probably 'give away' the movie. in any case, i would recommend it, as long as you're prepared to be disturbed (and a little confused for a while).
  • issue 28 of mcsweeney's quarterly concern arrived at my house recently.  after opening the box, i probably acquired some sort of goofy, slightly befuddled grin.  this issue, at first glance, looks like a painting of a boy laying in the woods with his ear to the ground, while some pink and red birds or leaves or mystical powers shoot towards the sky. upon further inspection, the painting is made up of four tiny books.  when removed, another painting, depicting a shadowy mining scene, made up of four more little books is revealed.  the eight books each contain a modern, unconventional illustrated fable, with titles such as poor little egg-boy hatched in a shul.  oh, mcsweeney's, you've done it again. tooooooo adorable.
  • i have been getting into to an odd splattering of musicians recently, namely the halo benders and swans (the two have, essentially, nothing in common).  the music of the halo benders is a collaboration between calvin johnson (of beat happening) and doug martsch (of built to spill) from the 90's.  the music is poppy yet mellow, and the lyrics are cute, but sharply witty.  overall, the halo benders are feel-good and fun...listening to them is like eating candy, or running through a sprinkler on a hot day.  swans, however, are a very dark, gothic-ish, post-punkish group from the 80's and 90's, headed by michael gira.  i still have to listen to more of their discography...i'll probably head by siren records when it reopens at the new location.  anyway, michelle and i talked about how part of swans' allure is that they are absolutely terrifying at times.

ps. don't worry about the social thing. it just means you'll be successful. Im terribly pull-my-teeth anti social. I can only bare to talk to Finn for more than 30min at a time these days.

I hate the internet too, mainly for being so much more interesting than my friends.

I MISSSS YOU!
